JGSDF Type 90 MBT

The Type 90 was developed by the JGSDF (Japanese Ground Self-Defence Force) and built by Mitsubishi Industries as a replacemen to the earlier Type 61 and Type74 Main Battle Tanks. Development started in 1980 and the Type 90 entered service in 1990 with around 300+ vehicles produced to date. The Type 90 is smaller than comparable MBT in service today although it is armed with the 120mm Rheinmetall L44 smoothbore cannon, the same gun as the US M1 Abrams and the German Leopard 2.
