SU-85 Tank Destroyer

Based on the very reliable T34 chassis, the SU-85 was a classic WWII tank destroyer. After removing the turret, the superstructure was extended to provide a mount for the powerful D-5T 85mm anti tank gun. The SU-85 first saw service in 1943 during the Dneiper crossing and quickly became popular with the crews. As with most allied equipment, some of these were captured and pressed into service by the Germans. Production ceased in 1944 after 2,050 had been produced.
