M4 Sherman 75mm (Early Production)

The M4 Sherman was fitted with a Continental R-975 engine and had a welded hull. The early vehicles had a three piece bolted nose and vision slots for gunner and driver. The M4 was armed with a M3 75mm in the M34 gun mount which was narrower than later mounts. The first M4 saw service with the British in 1942 at Alamein in North Africa. In British service it was known simply as the Sherman Mk I.
