StuG III Ausf E

Initially designed for infantry support, the Stug III was based on the Panzer III chassis. The kit represents an Ausf E which was armed with the 7.5cm StuK37 L/24. Production of the Ausf E was cut short following the introduction of the long StuK40 in 1942. The Ausf E chassis was used for the later StuH prototypes. Most Ausf E were used to replace front line losses although a few were sent to Ausf E detatchments. In July 1942 there were 619 Ausf A-E in service although this had reduced to 14
