The Ausf B was produced between May and October 1938 with 45 tanks running off the production lines. Improvements over the Ausf A were a more powerful engine, a 6-speed gearbox and thicker armour to protect against 20mm anti tank rounds. The front glacis was replaced with a flat panel and the hull machine gun replaced with a rectangular observation slit.
