Developed to counter the Allies command of the air, the Germans built a number of Flakpanzers based on the ever useful chassis of the Panzer IV. The Möbelwagen was first converted in 1943 although only armed with a quad 20mm Flakvierling. A second design with a 3.7cm Flak 43 L/89 was approved with 270 built. Initially they were based on damaged Panzer IV chassis returning from the Eastern front. They entered service on the Western Front in April 1944.
