SU-122 Self Propelled Gun

Production of the SU-122 started in December 1942 based on the chassis of the T34/76. The SU-122 was armed with a 122mm M-30 model 1938 howitzer mounted in a cast mantlet and was introduced to provide infantry support and also to act in an anti tank capacity. However, the SU-122 was weak in an anti tank capacity and was better suited to reducing strong points. By April 1943, SU-122 were formed into regiments with 8 SU-122 and 17 SU-76.
