British Mk IV 'Tadpole' WWI Tank with Rear Mortar

The Mk IV Tank was the most widely used tank in WWI. It was also the first tank, deriving its name from water tanks the codeword used during its secret development. The Mk IV Male was armed with a two 6 Pounders carried in a sponson on each side of the tank and a machine gun. The Tadpole was designed to improve trench crossing by extending the tail of the tank and strengthening with iron cross braces. A steel plate was then mounted on the cross braces and a Stokes mortar was fitted.
