StuG 40 Ausf G 1944

Initially designed for infantry support, the Stug III based on the Panzer III chassis became probably the most numerous of Germany's armoured fighting vehicles in WWII. The StuG III Ausf G was upgunned and fitted with the KwK 40 L/48. The new gun resulted in some being referred to as StuG 40. The higher velocity gun transformed the StuG III from an infantry support vehicle to a tank destroyer. The Ausf G incorporated an improved hull design based on the Pz Kpfw III Ausf M.
