Smith 3" Mk I Smooth-Bore Anti Tank Gun (Home Guard)

Following the withdrawal from Dunkirk, the threat of German invasion was very real. With virtually all available equipment being provided to the British Army, the Home Guard were left seriously lacking. The Smith 3" gun was designed by a retired Army Major, Maj. W. H. Smith, as a stop gap weapon and produced from 1941. It consisted of a 3" (76mm) smooth-bore barrel mounted on a carriage capable of firing modified 3" mortar, anti-tank or anti-personnel rounds up to an effective range of 90-270m.
