King Tiger (Henschel Production) (Ardennes, December 1944)

The Tiger II (Sd Kfz 182) was ordered in January 1943 to provide a tank capable of housing the 8.8cm L/71 gun. The first vehicles entered service in June 1944 and were allocated to the Schwere Panzer detachments of the SS. Seeing extensive action in Normandy 1944 the King Tiger also served in the Ardennes offensive in the winter of 1944 and on the Eastern Front. While they could take on and eliminate enemy tanks with ease they were never available in sufficient numbers to halt the Allied advance
